The BatAction Hitting Machine

There are three things that are really impressive about this machine.

1)The first thing that you notice when you see the machine is the high speed ball movement. The machine has a moving ball that rotates in a 8 1/2 ft. circle. The height and speed of the ball's movement can be adjusted to match the age and skill level of the hitter. This moving ball makes practice a lot more challenging, productive and fun. It also accelerates skill and batspeed development.

2)The second thing that grabs your attention about the machine is that it gives the hitter instant high quality feedback. Just like with a real ball, the hitter can quickly see the quality and power of each swing. This instant feedback is vital for rapid skill development. This feedback is what makes this team or "practice alone" machine so effective in quality swing development.

3)The third thing you really notice is that players really love hitting the BatAction Machine. The machine offers a wide range of drills. Players especially love the "streak drill", which may be the best "machine drill" in all of baseball and softball today! The speed and movement of the ball make practicing more fun. Therefore players want to practice more often. That's where the machine has picked up it's nickname, "Backyard Basketball Goal For Hitters".

Attention Coaches and Parents!!!
If you have been looking for the "edge" to give your favorite player or team an advantage over the competition, YOU CAN STOP LOOKING! YOU HAVE FOUND IT!

BatAction Hitting Machine Benefits and Advantages

The Bat Action Batting Trainer offers four definite advantages over other batting swing trainers:

Advantage #1
The first advantage is that the BatAction Hitting Machine allows the hitter to read the quality of his swing by the path of the batted ball. The ball will go where it is hit. He can see if he just hit a fly ball, ground ball, or a line-drive.

Advantage #2
The second advantage is that the BatAction Hitting Machine Self-Trainer allows maximum "BANG TIMEl" time during practice swings. It allows you to feel the bat drive through the hit ball. There is no cable or rope controlling the ball vertically that stops the ball's forward motion. On vertical machines, no matter how well you hit the ball, you always hit a "pop-up" because the ball is "jerked" upward by the controlling cable or rope.

Advantage #3
The third advantage of the BatAction Hitting Machine is convience and versatility. The batter can practice hitting a moving ball that comes in at the speed he desires from a distance that is perfect for practice. The BatAction Hitting Machine allows the batter to hit a moving ball or a "still" ball every 5 seconds. The height can be adjusted for a hitter in less than 20 seconds. The total BatAction Hitting Machine weights less than 45 pounds. The batter never has to stop, chase or pickup balls. The Bataction Hitting Machine is 100% energy efficient. All of the energy and effort exerted is used to become a better hitter. Kids love to practice hitting. They hate picking up or rounding up balls.

Advantage #4
The fourth BatAction Hitting Machine advantage is ball "TRAVEL TIME". This is the distance that the batter is allowed to see the ball coming in and the amount of time that the batter is allowed to see the ball travel after impact. This innovative Bataction Machine feature allows the batter to experience batting practice that closely simulates real game situation hitting. This feature also challenges the hitters and keeps them motivated to get better, which is a key to success.

STOP STRIKING OUT

STOP THOSE STRIKEOUTS

A SHORT 20 MINUTE WORKOUT, JUST 3 DAYS A WEEK, with the BATACTION MACHINE, is all a batter needs to greatly improve.

However, players that own this machine, on the average, hit it at least 5 times a week! That's why some of THE GAME'S HOTTEST HITTERS are BATACTION MACHINE OWNERS. They are good because they love hitting the "Bataction Machine" and it's always in their backyard when they get the urge to hit!

This Machine is a GREAT CONFIDENCE BUILDER! Increases of 100 to 200 points in a player's batting average is quite common once a player begins to regularly workout on this machine. BatAction Batting Machine Questions and Answers

Here are two questions often get asked concerning the Bat Action Batting Machine:

Does it work the BatAction Machine for both baseball and softball?

The BatAction "Self-Trainer" Hitting Machine is great batting practice for softball and baseball players. The small ball is not a problem for softball player. In fact, the BatAction Machine's baseball sized ball developes great concentration, hand-eye coordination and bat speed for all hitters.

Does the BatAction Machine work for both left-handers and right-handers, the same?

The machine allows a player to practice switch hitting without having to adjust or having to stop hitting. A right-handed batter and left-handed batter can practice hitting at the same height without having to change, touch or adjust the machine.

"Baseball Batting Success Requires Hitting To All Fields"

"Baseball Batting Success Requires Hitting To All Fields"
By Coach Nick Dixon

If you watched the 2008 Baseball College World Series, you quickly realized that great college hitters can catch up to any fastball regardless of the velocity. You saw batters at the CWS in Omaha hit mid-nineties fastballs with power and quickness that is amazing.

The philosophy of most pitching staffs today is that the job of the pitcher is to allow the batter to get them out. The pitcher must keep moving the ball in or out, up or down, and never leave it over the plate. A batter often does not get the same pitch in an at-back and may not see the same pitch in several at-bats.

My point here is that to be a great hitter in today’s high school or college baseball game, you must be able to hit the fastball to all fields, hit the curveball or changeup to the opposite field, and you must not be fooled by pitches in the dirt.

What is the secret to hitting to all fields? There are only two parts to this puzzle. What pitch and location should you expect and adjust to and where should you attack each pitch location. There are two simple principles on "expecting and adjusting" at the plate. Batter's should expect a pitch away and adjust to the pitch "inside of away". The baseball batter should expect a fastball and keep the hands back to allow an adjustment to hit the off speed curve or change-up.

Where each pitch location should be attacked? Here are the correct locations to attack each pitch:

1) INSIDE FASTBALL - Batter attacks it as quickly as possible. Contact with the ball is made in front of the plate and often in front of the "front or leverage" leg. This pitch should be pulled to the batter's "power field". Right-handers should pull the ball to left-field and left-handers should pull the ball to right-field. The amount of hip movement is dictated by how far inside the pitch is. The closer the pitch is to the batter, the more the hip turn movement will be. This pitch location should always be pulled.
2) MIDDLE FASTBALL - Batter should attack this pitch as soon as it gets behind the front foot. The closer the pitch is to the batter, the quicker it will be attacked as it gets inside the front foot. This pitch should be hit back through the box over second base. The amount of hip movement and pulling action will be dictated by how far in or out the ball is over the middle of the plate.
3) AWAY FASTBALL - Batter should attack this pitch as it gets deeper into the "plate' or just inside the back foot's instep. This pitch should be hit to the opposite field. The batter's hip turn and body rotation is limited when hitting the ball to the opposite field.
4) CURVEBALL and CHANGE-UPS - Most of the off speed pitches are attacked at the same location as the away fastball. These pitches are hit to the opposite field. A curve ball that is hung or left inside may allow the batter to turn on it. But, 90% of all off speed pitches are hit deep over the plate at the instep of the batter's back foot.

COACHING POINT: A batter must expect anything with certain counts. When a batter is down 0-2 or 1-2, the batter must even up the stance, take the lower body out of the swing, and us a top-half swing to allow the batter to hit any pitch and to put the ball in play. The batter with two strikes will not take as "big" a swing as a batter ahead in the count 1-0, 2-0, or 3-1.

BatAction Batting Machine Instructions for Assembly

Bat Action Hitting Machine Assembly Instructions:

Before you begin assembly, Check Your Inventory to make sure that you have received all required parts and components.

Step-by-step Assembly Instructions

Step 1 – Install each leg and lock it into place by tightening the knob. Make sure that you have a level surface to assemble your machine. Place each leg onto a square leg receiver with the “knob-nut” on top. Slide the leg as far onto the receiver as it will go. Place a knob into each leg and tighten it until the leg is locked securely in place. Check each leg to insure that it is tight and does not move.

Step 2 – Put the Height Adjustment Collar onto the Axle and tighten the Knob. The axle is shipped inside the support column and must be pulled up to slide the height adjustment collar onto it. Place two fingers inside the axle and pull it up at least 6 inches. Slide the collar onto it and tighten the adjustment knob locking the collar securely into place. Turn your axle until the knob is located on the right side of the machine.

Step 3 – Install the machine’s top component and tighten knob to lock it onto the top end of the axle. Slide the top component down onto the top end of the axle. The top component is the part of the machine that holds the ball unit in place. It as the BatAction decal on both sides. Put an adjustment knob into it and tighten the knob securing the top component onto the axle. Turn your component axle knob so that it is aligned over your height adjustment knob on the right side of the machine.

Step 4 – Apply heavy duty wheel axle grease to the machine’s axle for lubrication. To lubricate the axle, grab the top component and pull the axle up and out of the machines support column. Apply grease to the axle below the height adjustment collar. Spin the top component completely around several times to evenly spread the grease. Carefully slide the axle back into the support column. Always leave your axle inside the column. The grease used for this application is the heavy-duty wheel axle grease that can be purchased at any auto parts store or automotive section of any mass merchant store.

Step 5 – Install the hook bar and tighten the knob to secure it. The Hook-bar has three hooks on it. It serves as the machines bottom connection for the “powerbands”. Slide the Hook-bar onto the square receiver extending from the back of your support column. The hooks should be on top. Tighten the knob to secure it.

Step 6 – Install Powerbands – Adjust Length if necessary.
The Powerbands are the black bungie cords with black plastic balls. The plastic balls connect to the machine using the hooks on the machines top component and hook bar. The Powerband end with the rubber protective sleeved goes up. Powerbands are always connected to the bottom hook first and then attached to the top component. Start with one Powerband on the machine. To adjust their length, slide the plastic ball on the cord and move the knot. Now, slide the plastic ball over the knot.

Step 7 – Installing The “Ball Unit” or “Impact Head” into the machine’s top component. The square end of the “Ball Unit” slides into the top component and locks securely into place. Carefully slide the square unit in until the two holes are perfectly aligned. Tighten the top two knobs until the unit is secured in place and does not move. Pull on the unit to make sure that it is tightly locked into place.

Step 8 – Anchoring your machine during use. Before setting your machine up for use, choose a location indoors or outdoors that has sufficient space to allow an adequate “24 ft. Safety Zone” during use. Make sure to read the safety rules before choosing a location for using your machine. Make sure to follow all safety rules. To anchor your machine on a hard surface, indoors or outdoors, use sandbags filled with sand. Outdoors you should use the BatAcion Machine’s ground pins. The ground pins are inserted through the holes in each leg of the machine. You may have to use a hammer to “drive” the ground pins into the ground if the ground is hard. Using sand bags and ground pins prevents your machine from moving during use. Once your machine has the sandbags or ground pins in place, the machine is ready for use. Remember to always make sure to clear your “safety zone” before using your machine.

Note: The BatAction Machine’s energy source is the “wrapping and unwrapping” of the Powerbands. Powerbands should last for at least a year or longer. The Powerbands must be allowed to unwrap before the batter hits the ball. Failure to allow the Powerbands to unwrap between swings will continually stretch and stress the Powerbands until they fail. Therefore, make sure the batter understands that allowing the Powerbands to unwrap is the only way for this machine to work correctly.

BatAction Hitting Machine - The Ultimate Backyard Baseball Trainer

The BatAction Hitting Machine is widely known and respected for producing incredible bat speed, hitting skill, and batter confidence. The Bat Action Trainer offers high speed ball movement workouts that challenge batters of all ages and ability levels.

Three great benefits of the BatAction Baseball Training Machine:

1. The ball returns at a speed suitable for the hitter using it. The more power put into the swing, the faster the ball's speed will be when it returns to the batter.
2. The "horizontal" ball rod design of the BatAction Machine allows the ball to react like a real baseball when it is hit. Thus, the batter receives instant feedback to whether a groundball, flyball or line-drie was hit. This feedback facilitates and excellerates proper swing mastery.

3. There are no balls to chase, pick-up, or gather. Therefore no nets or containment is needed. All you need is a safe amount of adequate space for the machine to be set up. The BatAction Machine can be used indoors as well as outdoors.

Good Luck til Next Time, Nick.

"Baseball Hitting - "Getting the Hands to the Launch Position"

Part 1 of a 6 part series on
Baseball Hitting - "Putting it All Together"
By Nick Dixon

Part 1 - "Baseball Hitting - "Getting the Hands to the Launch Position"

Hitting a baseball is a skill that can be learned and improved with proper coaching and instruction.

It may be a difficult task, but with the correct fundamentals and techniques hitting can be one of the most rewarding activities in all of sports. There is nothing that is more satisfying and rewarding than hitting a line-drive in the left-center gap to help your team score the go-ahead run. Many kids experience a great sense of accomplishment while others suffer the embarrassment, disappointment, and despair of striking out time after time. They feel that they let their team down and they often feel that they embarrass their coach and parents. The quickest way to achieving hitting success is to identify bad mechanics and correct them as soon as possible.

I will now give a brief overview of 3 aspects of a solid batting stance, swing and finish.

1. The GRIP - knocking knuckles, (not fighting knuckles) should be aligned. This positions the bat's handle in the fingers and out of the palm. This allows maximum wrist quickness and hand speed.
Coaching Tip: Have kids check their grip by raising and pointing their index fingers. If they point in the same direction, they are aligned, if the point across each other, the grip is incorrect.

2. The BAT ANGLE at the start position. Keep in mind that the hands will move slightly back and away from the pitcher when the batter loads to the launch position. The bat's angle will not change during the loading process. The bat should be at a 45 degree angle over the shoulder. The bat should not be wrapped or tucked behind the head, this slows bat speed. The bat should be no more that 2 to 3 inches off the top of the shoulder.

3. The LOADING PROCESS is a simple and slight movement of the hands away from the pitcher. This is a movement that is so slight that many people do not notice it. The hands are the only things that move. If the batter is noticeably shifting weight, moving feet, and moving other body parts, too much movement is occurring. Most times this movement is no more than 2 to 4 inches. It may be more for larger players. LOADING is getting the hands to the launch position from which the forward swing motion starts. Different players use different loading actions. Some batters simply move the hands straight back and batters move the hands back and up at the same time. The loading process adds power, develops important timing and rhythm, and allows the batter's body to achieve a comfortable ready position from which to launch swing.

COACHING POINT: Make sure that players do not line their knuckles up when you are looking and then move their hands to an "ax grip" when you walk away. One way to teach the benefits of the "finger grip position" is to have the two batters take several swings from shoulder-to-shoulder very quickly using the two grips. Take two batters of similar ability levels and with similar hand speed and do this demonstration. One player uses the "correct grip" and one uses the "ax or incorrect grip". Have the batters take 10 shoulder-to-shoulder swings. See which batter completes the 10 swings first. This shows the kids how much faster the hands move when the correct grip is used. Note: Make sure to move the batters at a safe distance from each other and from other players when performing this illustration.

Understanding the Baseball Swing

Understanding the Baseball Swing
By Nate Barnett

If I asked you to give a five minute lecture on hitting mechanics start to finish, could you do it? If the answer is yes, then you've undoubtedly done some research on the baseball swing. If the answer is no, then there is some work to be done, and you'll want to read on, especially if you're in a role where you provide any type of baseball instruction.

Coaches must be continual learners if they are going to stay in this game for long and attract some success. The most dangerous attitude anyone of influence can obtain is an attitude of arrival. Therefore, be a constant learner.

The baseball swing can be broken down into various parts and movements. The key for any good coach or athlete is to understand first what these parts are, and secondly, to understand the sequence of these moving parts throughout the swing. Without getting into depth on the specific parts in this article, my purpose in writing this is to introduce how energy is created within the baseball swing.

Much like other athletic activities the energy created to produce a quick swing comes from the back side of the body. The lower half of the back side of the hitter's body is responsible for generating momentum directed toward the pitch. This movement does not happen automatically, unfortunately. Most hitters begin their swing with the front side of the body or their hands which greatly reduces the speed of the baseball swing.
The two most common and incorrect swing starters are the hands and the front hip. Here are the drawbacks for using those parts to begin the energy creation process.

Hands: The baseball swing is a movement where energy is created from the ground up. The back knee turns first, back hip second, and hands third. While this sequence happens very quickly, it's important that it remain consistent. The reason is because this process creates torque. It is a core body movement that creates a whip action and propels the bat into the zone. If the hitter's hands are responsible for generating power, little power can be generated comparatively.

Front Hip: As explained above, the back side of the body creates energy. Therefore, if the front hip of the hitter begins to rotate at the same time of the back side of the body, momentum begins to move away from the play instead of being directed at hitting the baseball.

Consistent drill work should be focused on minimizing the above two movements. While Little Leaguers can get away with some of these mistakes and have relative success, athletes in high school cannot. Therefore, the best time to correct these incorrect movements is between the ages of 10 and 15.
